Earlier in September the New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) hosted "Municipal Reserve Budgeting - A Familiar Practice, a New Purpose: Saving for Resilience". If you were unable to attend the webinar live, NEEFC has shared a recording of the session.

They've also prepared a useful 2-page Reserve Budgeting Fact Sheet that will be valuable to all municipalities.

Municipalities have long used reserve funds to save for capital needs. This webinar shows how to put that same practice to work for climate and natural hazard resilience. Learn how proactive saving can help your community respond to emergencies, fund resilience projects, and move quickly when grant opportunities require local match. NEEFC also covers sinking funds - reserves for planned but variable expenses (like snow removal) - and how they can be invested to keep pace with or beat inflation.

Guest speakers on webinar include:

  • Shiloh LaFreniere, Town Manager, Town of Jay

  • Laurie Smith, Town Manager, Town of Kennebunkport

  • Gabe McPhail, Resilient Communities, Town of Vinalhaven

  • Karen Reddersen, Town Manager, Town of Southwest Harbor

  • Jack Moore, CFA, Managing Partner, Harpswell Capital Advisors

If your community could benefit from NEEFC's assistance, please reach out to LCRPC and we'd be happy to make a connection!
